Retiree Chapter

UAW Amalgamated Local 2404 Retirees Meeting Report

The first ever retirees’ meeting for Local 2404 was held on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the Golden Corral Restaurant on South Boulevard in Charlotte.

The purpose of this meeting was to bring the retirees together and discuss the populating of a local retirees chapter.

President Marc McQuillen welcomed the retirees, described the purpose and function of a retiree’s chapter, and invited their input to “make the chapter what ever they want it to be”. Bevis Southern provided a benefits update and answered benefit questions. Lunch that was provided by the local followed.

The local will host several more of these meetings with the intention of then turning it over to a functioning retirees chapter.

Some of the suggestions provided from the retirees in attendance included:

  • Hold meeting in later afternoon/ early evening to make it more convenient for those working to attend and investigate holding a meeting on a weekend.

  • Provide at least two- three weeks notice of meeting date.

  • Make certain to include that spouses/ significant others are welcome to attend.

  • Hold next meeting in July- August.

  • Have a chapter that meets regularly and takes day trips.

The next meeting will be scheduled for the July- August period. In the interim the local union picnic will be held on Saturday June 16 at the Charlotte Knights game. Retirees will be notified about the picnic and meeting schedule accordingly. The next general membership meeting is scheduled for Sunday May 20 @1:30PM.

Should you have any questions or additional ideas for the retirees’ chapter please contact the local at 704.587.4715.

Thanks to those that came out and contributed. This will be your chapter and it will be what you want it to be!

Looking forward to seeing all of you again soon,

Marc McQuillen

Local President
